The Pitt has one of the biggest ensembles on television — and with that, comes a bit of turnover.

Season 1 saw the exit of Tracy Ifeachor, who played Dr. Heather Collins. Season 2 brought the final scenes for Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan.

Fans let their displeasure be known (and then some), but the executive producers defended their decision as a natural reflection of life in the emergency room, as well as the needs of their storytelling. “It’s part of the process,” showrunner R. Scott Gemmill explained to Gold Derby. “It is a bit of a revolving door in the hospital and in order to keep a certain amount of that feel authentic is the departure of certain individuals and the arrival of others. So we have new people coming in and we have new people leaving and old people leaving. And that helps keep the show fresh and keeps the audience on their toes. It also eliminates that sense of false jeopardy that some shows have where this isn’t going to happen because we know they’re not going to get rid of that character. When characters can leave in a moment’s notice and unexpectedly, then you don’t have that false jeopardy and you never know what can happen.”

IN: Sepideh Moafi (Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi)

The cliffhanger for Season 2 saw Dr. Al-Hashimi leaving the hospital in tears after she confessed her medical condition to Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), and he issued an ultimatum, demanding she reveal her diagnosis to the administration. Her status for Season 3 seemed precarious, but Moafi confirmed her return in an interview with Gold Derby. “Yes, I’ll be back,” she said. “I know that filming will start in a week. I know that I’m not going to be part of the first episode. But it’s going to be like staggered entrances. I know that we’re stepping into another wild day. I think it’s around Thanksgiving, four months from Season 2. I’m as excited and enthusiastic as everyone else is to find out what’s going to happen next.”

IN: Shabana Azeez (Dr. Victoria Javadi)

Everyone’s favorite TikTok doctor stirred up Internet chatter on the red carpet at a recent event when she said, “I can say that I’m not in the ER this season. I’ve done my ER rotation, so I’m doing my psychiatry rotation.” But that was all fairly well signaled at the end of Season 2, when she discussed the idea with Dr. Robby. She’s not leaving the show, as she confirmed to Gold Derby when asked about the third season. “We’re feeling good! We’re feeling employed! We’re feeling very grateful to be making TV and getting to act. I love acting. Very grateful that I still get to act.”

OUT: Supriya Ganesh (Samira Mohan)

Sadly, Dr. Mohan has in fact seen her last days in the PTMC. “It’s really meant the world to me,” Ganesh told Gold Derby about her time on the hit HBO medical drama, who said she was overwhelmed by the fan’s response to the news of her exit. “I was so surprised by how much love everyone had for her in the best way. I think that’s the thing I’m just going to miss the most, just all the love from the fans and that community that people formed around the character. It was just really sweet and really, really lovely. So I’m glad that so many people saw themselves in her.”

All three are on the ballot for the upcoming Emmy awards in the Best Supporting Actress race, so it’s in the voters’ hands to see how many make the final cut.
