Meghan Markle went with a casual name during her appearance on MasterChef Australia.

After the Duchess of Sussex, 44, joined the judges and contestants on the July 26 episode of the cooking competition, Poh Ling Yeow clarified how they should address their guest judge, asking, “Do we call you Duchess?”

“Oh, call me Meghan,” she replied.

Prince Harry and Meghan retained their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after stepping back from their royal roles in 2020. Meghan confirmed to The Circuit with Emily Chang in a 2025 interview that she legally changed her name upon marrying Harry in 2018. She is now officially Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and they consider “Sussex” as the family name they share with her children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.

However, she and Harry have often favored using their first names or nicknames, like when Meghan suggested she be addressed as “Meg” at an outing this year.

The casual name reveal on the episode comes after a promo for the episode showed Yeow introducing Meghan by both her title and maiden name.

“We’ve had MasterChef royalty in the kitchen before, but nothing like this,” the MasterChef judge said. “All the way from sunny California, please welcome to MasterChef Australia...the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle!”

News.com.au cited an unnamed source who claimed Meghan and her team were “very frustrated” by the promo’s “royalty” reference. However, a source close to Meghan firmly disputed the rumors to PEOPLE last week, saying that she “had a great time” filming the episode, adding that suggestions otherwise are “false.”

“Meghan and the MasterChef judges had a great time on set together,” the close source told PEOPLE. “They immediately had such a great rapport and had a really fun time working with the contestants and crew as well. “Any reporting otherwise is false,” the source adds.

Prince Harry also made an appearance on the show via a video call.

“What’s going on? Have I interrupted something important?” the Duke of Sussex, 41, joked.

“Well, we are actually in the middle of tasting all the dishes. We have four incredible cooks here. It’s amazing, they’re so talented. We wish you were here,” Meghan replied, telling the judges, “He’s in Canberra right now with the veterans.”

Meghan filmed her MasterChef appearance during the couple’s April trip to Australia. TV Tonight reported that 1,160,000 people tuned into watch Meghan’s episode, making it the third most-popular of the season, behind only the premiere and Sweet Week on June 14.
