Not only was Princess Charlotte her mother’s mini-me in matching stripes at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Saturday, but she’s inherited the Princess of Wales’ mannerisms, which were on full display during the family’s Glasgow outing.

Charlotte arrived at The Hydro alongside her parents and brothers on 1 August, where the royals met with athletes from England and Scotland. The young royal, 11, wore her incredibly long hair down for the day, which she repeatedly fixed as the wind swept pieces out of place.

In a video of the Waleses mid-conversation outside the stadium, Charlotte mirrored her mother, who also kept smoothing her long locks and quickly tucking flyaway strands behind her ears for a neat appearance. Charlotte appeared confident and engaged in the conversation with English powerlifter Mark Swan as she stood between her father, Prince William, and her younger brother, Prince Louis, while her mother chatted to Scottish gymnast Reuben Ward.

Kate and Charlotte’s matching moment

Along with their identical mannerisms, Kate and her daughter had a sweet matching style moment at the sporting event, both opting for black and white stripes.

The Princess of Wales looked chic in a US $175 (approx. £130) striped sweater vest by New York label La Ligne, as identified by Royal Fashion Police on Instagram, which she paired with a pleated midi skirt. She elevated her smart casual look with a $3,790 (approx. £2,811) dark green racing jacket, which she wore open buttoned.

Meanwhile, Charlotte looked lovely in a collared Guess polka dot dress with tiers of stripes spaced out across the skirt. The young royal’s hair was out in loose and natural waves past her shoulders, looking even longer than her mother’s glamorous tresses.

Charlotte’s growing confidence

Charlotte has joined her parents for numerous public engagements, and according to a body language expert, the young royal has started to show subtle signs that she is becoming more independent. While she used to frequently hold her mother’s hand, Charlotte has started walking confidently on her own.

“At this age, children naturally start to take small steps toward independence, not because they feel less close to a parent, but because they feel secure enough to explore,”  Dr. Patricia Britto, a Harley Street-based psychologist who holds a Doctorate in Professional Educational, Child and Adolescent Psychology (DEdPsy) from the UCL Institute of Education, told HELLO!.

Dr. Patricia explained that Charlotte’s body language is telling of her confidence and her secure relationship with her mother. “Walking calmly beside a parent rather than being guided can indicate a child feels steady internally and capable of coping, while still staying emotionally connected. And when we see this kind of behaviour across different outings, it points to a consistent pattern of growing confidence rather than a one-off moment.”
