In the hours following the passing of country music icon Dolly Parton at age 80, her family shared a touching, deeply personal final wish the singer made before her death.
Announcing her passing in an emotional video message on her official channels, Parton’s nephew and long-time head of security, Bryan Seaver, revealed that she asked to be laid to rest in a “beautiful bed of plush cotton”.
“Dolly was a farmer, just like her daddy. He farmed the soil; she farmed songs and happiness,” Seaver shared. “Dolly called me and said she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton, because after a life wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest.”
A Nephew’s Promise and Tribute
Seaver noted that Parton had asked him years ago to be the one to deliver the public announcement upon her death—a responsibility he described as “an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness”:
