FOUR PRIVATE JETS IN 11 DAYS — BUT IT’S THE CARBON COMPARISON BEHIND HARRY AND MEGHAN’S LATEST FLIGHT THAT’S REALLY RAISING EYEBROWS ✈️ Harry and Meghan are facing fresh criticism after reportedly taking their fourth private flight in just 11 days. On its own, that number was enough to restart the debate over their travel habits. But the bigger talking point comes from estimates comparing the latest journey with the same trip taken on a normal scheduled flight. The calculation suggests that, per passenger, the private-jet journey produced dramatically more CO₂ — a gap substantial enough to put renewed focus on the couple’s previous public comments about environmental responsibility. And once the two figures are placed side by side, it becomes much easier to see why critics are calling the contrast uncomfortable. THE EXACT CARBON DIFFERENCE — AND WHY IT’S CAUSING SUCH A BACKLASH — IS IN THE FIRST LINK IN THE COMMENTS.

Prince William and Kate Middleton offered a surprisingly ordinary glimpse of royal family life when they travelled to Scotland with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis on a budget airline.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were spotted boarding a Flybe flight from Norwich to Aberdeen on Thursday, August 22, 2019, as the family made its way to Balmoral Castle for a private summer break with Queen Elizabeth II.

The choice of transport immediately attracted attention, particularly because it came amid intense scrutiny of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle over their recent use of private jets.

A very different kind of royal journey

Rather than travelling privately, William and Kate joined other passengers on the commercial service operated by Flybe franchise partner Eastern Airways.

The flight from Norwich to Aberdeen normally cost from around £73, although the airline did not confirm how much the Cambridge family actually paid.

Footage showed the family making their way across the tarmac after landing.

William was seen with Prince George, while Princess Charlotte followed alongside them. Kate was pictured with the youngest child, Prince Louis, while the family’s nanny, Maria Borrallo, was also present.

The family then travelled onwards towards Balmoral, where they were expected to spend time with the Queen during her annual Scottish holiday.

Bound for Balmoral

Balmoral has long been an important destination for the Royal Family during the summer months.

Queen Elizabeth II traditionally spent part of the season at the Scottish estate, making the Cambridges’ visit an opportunity for George, Charlotte and Louis to spend time with their great-grandmother.

At the time, the family had been enjoying its summer break before George and Charlotte were due to return to school.

Their journey to Scotland therefore looked, at least on the surface, like a fairly routine family trip.

But the circumstances surrounding it made the decision to fly commercially particularly noteworthy.

The Harry and Meghan comparison

Just days earlier, Harry and Meghan had been criticised for using private aircraft during their summer travels.

The Sussexes had taken private flights to Ibiza and to Sir Elton John’s home in the South of France, prompting debate over the environmental impact of private aviation.

Harry and Meghan have been outspoken on environmental issues in recent months despite still travelling by private jet

The criticism was especially pointed because Prince Harry had spoken publicly about climate change and environmental responsibility.

Sir Elton John subsequently defended the Sussexes’ trip to France, saying he had provided the family with a private flight to ensure they could enjoy privacy and protection. He also said the journey had been made carbon neutral through a contribution to Carbon Footprint.

Against that backdrop, photographs of William, Kate and their three children travelling on a budget airline inevitably invited comparisons between the two royal households.

Some reports described the Cambridges as the Budget Royals, while commentators questioned whether the contrasting travel arrangements reflected different approaches to public life and environmental concerns.

However, there was no confirmation that William and Kate had chosen the flight specifically as a response to the controversy surrounding Harry and Meghan.

Kensington Palace described the family’s trip to Scotland as private time.

An unusually ordinary royal sighting

For passengers on the Norwich-to-Aberdeen service, the presence of the future King and his family was an unexpected surprise.

The flight was a reminder that, despite their security arrangements and extraordinary public profile, William and Kate could still travel alongside ordinary passengers when circumstances allowed.

The family’s low-key journey also offered a glimpse of their summer routine away from official engagements.

Once in Scotland, the Cambridges joined the wider Royal Family at Balmoral, continuing a longstanding tradition of spending part of the summer in the Highlands.

For a family accustomed to global attention, the journey itself was remarkably straightforward: five royals, a budget flight and a trip north to spend time with the Queen.

And in a week dominated by arguments over private aviation, that simple choice became a royal story in its own right.
