KYLIE KELCE HAD ONE VERY SPECIFIC REASON FOR INVITING PRINCESS KATE ON HER PODCAST — THEN REALISED HER ROYAL ETIQUETTE NEEDED A QUICK FIX The Princess of Wales has not accepted the invitation, but Kylie Kelce is already imagining the conversation they could have. Her pitch was surprisingly personal: motherhood, raising children in the public eye and a shared connection to field hockey. Then Kylie revisited the invitation and admitted she had made a small mistake in the way she addressed Kate. She corrected herself publicly — with the kind of self-deprecating humour that made the moment even more memorable. 👑 SEE WHAT KYLIE CALLED KATE — AND WHY SHE APOLOGISED.

Kylie Kelce is brushing up on her royal etiquette.

The 34-year-old podcast host and wife of Jason Kelce revisited her recent invitation for Kate Middleton to appear on her Not Gonna Lie podcast, this time with an apology over how she addressed the Princess of Wales.

During the Sept. 24 episode of the podcast, Kylie extended an invitation to Kate, saying, “Princess Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, if you ever wanted to come on and chitchat about some field hockey and maybe kids. I don’t know. We got a couple things in common.”

She added that “our husbands chitchatted on the other podcast,” referencing Prince William’s July appearance on Kylie’s husband Jason Kelce and his brother Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast.

On the Thursday, Oct. 1 episode of Not Gonna Lie, Kylie returned to the subject after learning more about the royal’s formal name and title.

“I love learning, so I was unaware that calling Princess Catherine, Princess Kate was offensive,” Kylie said. “I didn’t know that. Now I know that. Now I will proceed accordingly. I apologize for the mistake. I would like to refer to people in the most respectful way and how they feel respected.”

She then addressed the royal directly: “Princess Catherine or the Princess of Wales, I apologize. I will get that sorted immediately starting now.”

Kate’s formal title is Catherine, Princess of Wales, and she is formally referred to as the Princess of Wales. She has also been known around the world as Kate Middleton for more than two decades, dating back to her relationship with Prince William before their 2011 wedding, and remains widely searched by that name online.

It’s a naming distinction PEOPLE knows well. For clarity and continuity, and so readers searching for news about the royal can easily find our coverage, PEOPLE continues to use Kate Middleton in headlines and on first reference, while also referring to her as Princess Kate and the Princess of Wales throughout our coverage.

The Kate-versus-Catherine question dates back years before she officially joined the royal family. In 2008, two years before Prince William proposed, the future Princess of Wales reportedly sent an email to close friends asking them to call her Catherine rather than the more informal Kate. Royal biographer Robert Jobson wrote in Catherine, the Princess of Wales that it was unclear whether the request reflected a personal preference or was part of her preparation for a more formal public role. At the time, however, the name Kate Middleton was already firmly established around the world.

Kate and William, both 44, became the Princess and Prince of Wales following the death of Queen Elizabeth in September 2022, when King Charles announced William would take on the title previously held by him. Kate consequently became the Princess of Wales, a title most famously associated in recent history with William’s late mother, Princess Diana.

Kylie also acknowledged that she might have to make another adjustment if Kate ever takes her up on the podcast invitation: cleaning up her language.

After a commenter wrote, “Princess Catherine is too refined and beautiful to be subjected to your cursing. You’ll need to clean up your act,” Kylie conceded the point.

“First of all, you’re correct. Agreed,” she said.

The wife of retired NFL star Jason, 38, went on to stress that her invitation came without any expectations.

“I don’t think that anybody owes me anything. Let me emphasize that,” Kylie said. “I would love to speak to the Princess of Wales. Okay? Because of many reasons. She is an incredible woman. She has children. She played field hockey. She battled cancer. There are so many things that I would love to speak to her about.”

But Kylie is keeping her expectations realistic.

“Do I think she has time to hop on this podcast? No, I do not. I don’t think that,” she said.

As for whether she could curb her famously colorful vocabulary for a royal guest, Kylie said she knows when to adjust to the company she’s keeping.

“Would I curse at her face? No,” she said. “Here’s the thing. I love a curse word. I love it so, so much. I love curse words. You guys know that. But at the end of the day, I am respectful of the situations that I am put in, at least being respectful to the people I am speaking to.”

Kylie has had several big names on her podcast, which won a Webby Award in May, including former First Lady Michelle Obama, movie stars like Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Garner, and musicians like Kelly Clarkson and Hilary Duff.

Plus, in addition to Prince William appearing on New Heights, the future king also brought his and Kate’s eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte to see Kylie’s sister-in-law Taylor Swift perform on her Eras Tour in London in June 2024.
