In a recent appearance on the Good Food podcast, the 51-year-old food critic was jokingly asked whether he would want to become a prince now that his mother is Queen — and his answer was anything but ordinary.

Rather than embrace the idea, Tom dismissed it with a dramatic prediction: if he were suddenly elevated to princely status, “Buckingham Palace gates would be stormed.” He suggested that such a move would spark public outrage and set back the monarchy’s reputation by years, underlining that he has no desire to step into royal life despite his close family ties.

As the son of Queen Camilla and her former husband Andrew Parker Bowles, Tom and his sister Laura Lopes became step-siblings to Prince William and Prince Harry when Camilla married the future King Charles in 2005.
