PRINCESS BEATRICE CELEBRATES BABY ATHENA’S CHRISTENING AT A PUB — WHILE ANDREW AND SARAH’S ABSENCE FROM THE AFTER-PARTY SPOKE LOUDER THAN WORDS — The christening itself was carefully contained, formal and discreet, but it was what happened after that quietly shifted the mood, as Princess Beatrice headed to a local pub to toast baby Athena with close friends and family, choosing warmth and normalcy over palace stiffness, while Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson were notably nowhere to be seen; the contrast was impossible to miss — laughter, clinking glasses, and a relaxed celebration unfolding without the Duke and Duchess of York, whose decision to skip the after-party came amid ongoing royal sensitivity and unspoken fallout; Beatrice’s move felt intentional rather than accidental, signaling a desire to mark motherhood on her own terms, even as the wider family continues to navigate reputational fault lines; it wasn’t defiant, and it wasn’t dramatic, but it was clear — this moment belonged to her, not the controversy surrounding her parents.

Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi stepped out for a celebratory pub visit in London following the christening of their daughter Athena — notably without her parents, the former Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

On Dec. 12, Beatrice, 37, and Edo, 42, were photographed hopping out of a taxi in Marylebone as they headed to a pub after their baby daughter’s christening, the Daily Mail reported. The milestone marked Andrew and Sarah’s first royal family appearance since King Charles stripped the Duke of York of his remaining royal titles in October amid renewed scrutiny over his ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein, though the former couple did not join the pub gathering.

Beatrice and the property developer were seen meeting friends in photos published by the outlet, with one guest carrying a large box believed to be a cake.

James Blunt was also spotted arriving with a small gift bag after attending the private ceremony. His wife, Sofia Wellesley, is reportedly among Athena’s godparents, along with Princess Nina of Greece and Denmark.

Princess Eugenie was also pictured arriving at the pub celebration. Princess Beatrice and her sister share a close relationship, and Eugenie attended Athena’s christening with her husband, Jack Brooksbank.

“It’s a really lovely pub with a very chilled atmosphere, and everyone was very discreet — you would never have known there was royalty in the building,” a source told Hello! about the vibe inside.

Athena, 10 months, is the youngest child of Beatrice and Edo, and was christened earlier on Friday at in a private ceremony at Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace in London. Athena was born preterm in January, an experience that Beatrice later wrote for British Vogue was preceded by “months of sheer worry.”

The christening drew attention as it doubled as Andrew and Sarah’s first joint appearance since King Charles removed his younger brother’s royal style, titles and honors in an unprecedented step. The King, 77, made the move around renewed interest in the depth of Andrew’s connections to Epstein, who died while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges in 2019, and PEOPLE understood Ferguson would stop using her Duchess of York title, too.
