The Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children enjoyed a family day out at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday (August 1), watching sports, high-fiving the mascot and meeting athletes. It marked the first time Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight, have been pictured in public in Scotland – and Louis’ first time attending a major sporting event.
The jam-packed day saw the Wales family watch the netball, cycling and Judo at Glasgow 2026, with the youngsters later revealing their favourite sports. They started the day by watching the tense Netball semi-final clash between Australia and Jamaica, which saw Jamaica secure their place in the gold medal match after winning by just one point. After the game, Scottish swimmer Archie Goodburn, who has brain cancer, accompanied the family of five out of the packed Hydro.

The sunshine briefly made an appearance as they were greeted by a line-up of 20 volunteers, and cheered on by the huge crowds gathered outside the gates as word spread that the royals would be heading outside.
When Welsh TV presenter Gethin Jones asked George if he wanted to see his parents team up on a tandem in the velodrome, the 13-year-old quickly replied “no”, clearly embarrassed by the prospect.
Catherine, who was set beside him, burst out laughing while William replied: “We embarrass you enough as it is.”
As William, Catherine and George stopped to chat with three of the foam-finger-clad volunteers, Charlotte and Louis also made their acquaintance with Games’ unicorn mascot, Finnie. Charlotte, who appeared cold in her white and black polka dot dress, waved at the mascot and gave her a high five, prompting the character to jump in the air before offering her younger brother a high five as well. Finnie then appeared to mimic Charlotte’s shivering before her father walked over and fist-bumped the mascot.
Finnie blew Catherine a kiss and laughed as they too shared a fist bump before moving over to chat to two Gold Medallists.

Introducing his children to English para-athlete Mark Swan, who won the first gold of the Games in weightlifting, William asked the medal winner to explain how much he could lift in a way the youngsters could understand.
Mark told them: “I can lift a grand piano or 19 corgi dogs.” Charlotte and Louis gaped open-mouthed, as William imitated the lifting action with his hands.
The family of five then travelled to the velodrome, where they watched the action alongside Sir Chris Hoy, Laura Kenny and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh before heading to watch the Judo.
On the final stop of their busy day at the Commonwealth Games, the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children popped into Wales House in the centre of Glasgow. William and Catherine led their children over to speak to identical twin gymnasts Abigail and Emily Roper, who won bronze medals within an hour of each other earlier in the week.
