Flavio Cobolli made quite a revelation following his Wimbledon loss to world No. 114 Arthur Fery, saying he was told by his team that he “wasn’t so humble since the first point” of the match.

The Italian tennis star, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 10 in the world after finishing as runner-up at the French Open, reached his second Wimbledon quarterfinal after back-to-back notable wins over Karen Khachanov and Alex de Minaur.

Standing between Cobolli and his maiden semifinal at The Championships was Fery, who received a wildcard for the tournament.

And while the world No. 10 entered the match as the favorite, he didn’t come anywhere near winning it as the 114th-ranked British wildcard registered a 6-4 7-6 (4) 6-0 victory.

Cobolli admits he didn’t play well, but also praises Fery’s level

Cobolli lost the first set after being broken in the 10th game and also blew an early second-set break before falling two sets behind. After losing the second set in heartbreaking fashion, the Italian’s game totally collapsed and he didn’t win another game for the rest of the match.

“I felt the game of Arthur was really good for him. The way that I played… And the perfect game for him. I think I didn’t play good since the first point of the match,” the French Open finalist admitted afterward.

“Maybe I was a little bit nervous. Maybe I felt the pressure that normally I don’t feel. Playing a quarterfinal against a guy that had already played a marathon match and spent many hours on court, ranked lower than me, I felt like it was a chance to have a good day for me today.”

After admitting he didn’t play well and didn’t have his day, the 24-year-old Italian appeared to suggest that he maybe didn’t approach the match as seriously as he should have.

“Maybe, like my team says, I wasn’t so humble since the first point. But I felt that it wasn’t my day. It can happen. But still, quarterfinal in a Grand Slam. I’m still happy,” Cobolli added.
