Despite falling short of a finals berth, Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala expressed nothing but gratitude after concluding a memorable run at the 2026 Berlin Open.

The 21-year-old Eala shared her appreciation on social media following her semifinal loss to Czech standout Linda Noskova, who defeated her 6-2, 6-4 on Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines) at the Steffi Graf Stadion.

“Can’t begin to describe all the emotions I’ve experienced this week, my heart is full! I am forever GRATEFUL. Berlin, you are so so special, thank you!” Eala wrote on Instagram.

Eala’s message came after a breakthrough week in the prestigious grass-court tournament, where she delivered some of the biggest upsets of the competition.

Entering the event as a wildcard, Eala stunned world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in the Round of 16 before eliminating former world No. 3 Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals to reach her first Berlin Open semifinal.

Her remarkable performance further strengthened her growing reputation on the WTA Tour and provided another boost ahead of Wimbledon, the year’s third Grand Slam tournament.

Although Noskova ended her campaign in the last four, Eala’s run in Berlin marked one of the most significant achievements of her professional career, highlighted by victories over some of the world’s top-ranked players. (AC)
