Andrew to give evidence in court after he was ‘threatened by masked man who confronted him near Sandringham home’
ANDREW Mountbatten-Windsor will appear in court in December to give evidence against a masked man accused of threatening him near his Sandringham home.
The disgraced ex-Prince was out walking his dogs around 7.30pm on May 6 when Alex Jenkinson, 39, allegedly leapt out of a car and charged at him – forcing him to flee with the late Queen’s corgis.
An unarmed protection officer is said to have confronted the long-haired suspect in Wolferton, close to Andrew’s Marsh Farm property, and alerted cops.
Jenkinson was charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke violence.
He also faces a second charge of threatening a man named Stephen Terry in the same location the same day.
The 39-year-old previously pleaded not guilty to both offences.
He was due to stand trial at Westminster Magistrates Court today but the case was adjourned until December 21.
The court heard that Andrew will give evidence via video link during the one-day trial.
Other witnesses will include Mr Terry, a man named Michael Duncan, and a police officer.
Today’s hearing also heard legal argument over whether telephone records could be used as evidence.
Tom Daniel, prosecuting, suggested Jenkinson used Google to search “Andrew’s Norfolk security” and other terms relating to the former Duke of York.
But Claire Howell, defending, argued the data was “not relevant” and needs to be analysed by a forensic expert before it can be considered as admissible evidence.
Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring said prosecutors have until September 15 to resubmit it.
Jenkinson, formerly of King’s Lynn, did not appear in court and is currently living in a hotel.
He was previously granted bail on the condition he does not contact Andrew or Mr Terry, or go within 500m of the royal residences in Sandringham, Balmoral, Windsor, Highgrove or Buckingham Palace.
Appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in May, he denied using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence to the former Duke.
Jenkinson pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of blood while in custody on the same day.
He pleaded not guilty to a further charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence against Stephen Terry, in King’s Lynn, on May 5.
He was charged following reports the disgraced former prince was accosted by a masked man who jumped out of a car and ran towards him.
It is understood reclusive Andrew was out walking the late Queen’s corgis when he was confronted.
The man is said to have shouted at the ex-prince, who was forced to flee along a country lane.
It is believed an unarmed protection officer confronted the man and alerted cops who raced to Marsh Farm near the Norfolk village of Wolferton.
Sources said the man was in a parked car 50 yards away and wearing a balaclava before he got out to challenge Andrew.
The shamed prince was said to be “frightened” but unharmed by the ordeal.
Norfolk Police previously confirmed Jenkinson was charged following an incident in Wolferton, near the Sandringham Estate where Andrew lives.
Officers responded to a report “a man was behaving in an intimidating manner in the village”.
